The Price of Progress

Before things get better, it will worsen first.

Everyone knows what a pain it is to pass through the portion of EDSA between Heritage Hotel and Taft Ave. I wished there was a way to decongest this clogged part of the metro, and my wish was granted.

Published on the Philippine Daily Inquirer today:

The same on Inquirer.net:

2-way traffic starts on Domestic Road
STARTING Friday, there will be two-way traffic on Domestic Road in Pasay City, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority announced Thursday. Two lanes will be reserved for vehicles going to Roxas Boulevard while the other two lanes will be for vehicles going to Andrews Avenue. The move is aimed at decongesting roads in Pasay and ParaƱaque cities in preparation for the construction of the Edsa-Taft flyover, from the Heritage Hotel area to Malibay Bridge, in August. Traffic is expected to build up in the two areas due to the project which has a 15-month completion period. Jaymee T. Gamil

Exactly the same as my thought: build a flyover from Heritage to pass over LRT Taft Ave and land somewhere near Tramo. But it would be a big feat. Besides making traffic heavier during construction, the architects of this project would have to overcome the existing structures: LRT and MRT. For a lack of a better (English) term, kailangan nilang laktawan lahat ng mga 'to.

The soon-to-be construction site.

According to the news article, the debacle for motorists and commuters alike will start around August 2013. I am now out of wits on how I can survive the heavy traffic once this happens, since I take the bus through EDSA Taft to work every day.

Good news for motorists though, starting today, an alternate route has already been implemented by MMDA to help lessen the flow on the soon-to-be construction site.

I'm a little confused though. The news article said Domestic Road will be two-way starting today. But based on my recollection, Domestic Road is already two-way. Could have they meant Airport Road, which is currently one-way?

Could this be what they meant?

If I am correct, Airport Road (not Domestic Road), which was before a one-way road from Andrews Ave. to Roxas Blvd., will now be two-way, allowing vehicles to cross from Roxas Blvd. through Andrews Ave. to EDSA (via Tramo) or Nichols (via NAIA 3). I'll edit this post later once I have verified this later when I go to work.

Hopefully, private motorists would be wise enough to take this and other alternate routes at this time so that the PUVs will have an easier time plying through EDSA Taft.
