Cavitex - Sangley Extension Project

Screen grab from Google Maps
Over the past months I have been noticing reclamation activity along the mangroves area of Cavitex Kawit toll exit. As it took shape of a road running towards Cavite City, it got me more curious. So this is what it says in the DPWH PPP Page:

Cavitex-Sangley Extension

Image from DPWH PPP page

Project Description:
•The project proposal is a viaduct with an approximate length of 4.63 km. via a reclaimed road which intends to connect the Kawit Interchange of Cavitex to Sangley Point of Cavite City and neighboring provinces (Laguna, Batangas, etc.) including Metro Manila. The project will have the following phases:

Project Phases
Length
(km)
1
Kawit Interchange to Bacoor Bay

·   Road
1.46

·   Bridge
0.16
2
Bacoor Bay to Cavite City Interchange

·   Road
0.20

·   Bridge
1.00
3
Cavite City Interchange

·   Road
1.44

·   Bridge
0.37

News articles only mentions the proposal as of April 2018 and I don't see any construction timeline in the DPWH page. It seems the reclamation has almost reached Bacoor Bay and no signs of slowing down.
Hopefully it turn to be a great benefit to commuters and not damage the mangrove forests that grow around the area.

Bakasyunan Resort, Tanay, Rizal

We had an office outing and we were permitted to bring family. Yay! When I saw pictures of the venue online, I was very eager to go. Road trip with my wife and kids, and they enjoyed it. Worth the long drive.

Hidden and Forgotten History Marker

As I was roaming around Kawit back roads today, I noticed an old, unkempt marker on a vacant lot looking oddly out of place. I stopped to take a closer look, and it was an undated commemorative tablet of some sort. It read:

COMMEMORATIVE TABLET TO THE FLAG'S FIRST VICTORY
At Alapan, for the first time, on May 28, 1898, was carried to victory, in baptism of blood and fire, the tri-colored Philippine National Flag. The battle over, the Spanish forces surrendered to the Filipino hosts who saved the Red, White and Blue and raised the "Sun and Stars" to glory.
-- o --
Donated by General Esteban de la Rama, Secretario de Marina in Aguinaldo's cabinet 1898-1899. Presented at the request of Mr. Luis Elba who interested the donor in the significance of this event in our military history.

I hope this marker gets noticed and preserved for future generations to see.

I added the location in Google Maps here.

Trash from the Past!

It's been several months since the last Habagat and flash floods hit Kawit, Cavite, but why on earth is this still here?
Garbage that had been washed out by the storm surge have become a permanent fixture on the road side along Centennial Road near Tramo-Bantayan. Does the local government of Kawit have any plan for this?

The Price of Progress

Before things get better, it will worsen first.

Everyone knows what a pain it is to pass through the portion of EDSA between Heritage Hotel and Taft Ave. I wished there was a way to decongest this clogged part of the metro, and my wish was granted.

Commemorative Plates on the Loose!

I didn't fully understand how the rules go about using commemorative plates in your vehicle. I've been seeing quite a few vehicles sporting these custom plates recently so I decided to look it up.

A private van sporting an "MPD 111" commemorative plate.

According to an article in Inquirer.net, "Replacing regular plate numbers with a commemorative plate is a violation of Republic Act No. 4136 or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code of the Philippines." It can be placed alongside or above the original license plate.

There was one vehicle I saw which had PNP vanity plates on both front and back. He must be feeling really powerful to be blatantly violating the law. I wish I had the time to snap pictures for sample.

However You Look At It

Early today, I was on a jeepney travelling along Buendia, bound for Guadalupe. As we were crossing Makati Ave., a passenger called to stop the jeepney and get off. The driver didn't stop and continued on for a few more meters past the intersection, despite the passenger's repeated "Para" (Stop, from the Spanish parar). The jeep pulled over to the side of the road to let her off, but not without getting the passenger's stern look. The driver explained, "Bawal po dun, baka mahuli tayo." (We may get apprehended if we stop there.) What I was surprised about was another passenger, seeing another jeepney loading right at the corner of the intersection, butt in, "E pwede ngang magsakay dun, o." (It seems loading [passengers] is ok there.) The only thing I can think about was, "Kaya hindi umuunlad ang Pilipinas e." (That's why the Philippines' condition doesn't improve.)

Why would people insist on doing the wrong thing, just because others are doing them? There was clearly a sign on that intersection prohibiting loading AND unloading, but seeing violators not being apprehended, people think it's ok anyway. The reason I correlate this to our country not getting out of the mud is that, apparently, some, if not most people, lack integrity. Integrity in my definition is "doing the right thing everytime, even when no one is looking." It doesn't have to be in a grand scale, like corruption in the government, or crimes in the street. Integrity also applies to small things, such as a storekeeper gives you more than your change, browsing through your professor's notes for quiz answers, etc. Doing things right in the small scale builds you up when you are presented with the big decisions.

It takes a lot for one to be able to make the right decisions. We need to live it everyday, even if we are only by ourselves. Probably if everyone thinks this way, our country will have lesser problems than it faces today.

No Ticket, No Pay

Hi! Welcome to the rantings of a metro commuter. Here I will be posting my thoughts about travel, commuting, places, and observations as I course through my daily commute.

I like to use Google Maps looking for places I have been to and those I've never been to. It's my handy guide to where I would like to go, what transit to use, what best route to take whenever I need to go somewhere. My dream? An android phone with GPS, Google Maps on browser, and I go anywhere I want. (Time and budget permitting of course.)

So ready your fare, be sure of your destination, and be careful stepping out on the road.
